Breaking News: Yadkin County Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Caused by U-Turning Driver

October 8 , 2024

Mooresville, North Carolina — October 7, 2024 — According to Fox 8 and the N.C. Department of Transportation, a Yadkin County man died in a crash on Interstate 77 North just beyond Exit 31 (Langtree Road) in southern Iredell County.

A report from the N.C. State Highway Patrol says a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by 67-year-old Charlotte woman Kathleen Williams lost control, struck the median barrier, and came to a stop. Williams then drove south in the toll lane to attempt to turn around. That’s when she was struck by a 2021 KTM motorcycle traveling north. She and a passenger were transported by EMS to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers say the driver of the motorcycle, a 61-year-old from Yadkinville, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  After the initial impact, the bike stuck a Nissan Sentra driving north. The Sentra driver was not injured.

Upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office, charges are pending. The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision.
