Breaking News: Trucker Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run on Don Holt Bridge
March 18 , 2025North Charleston, South Carolina — March 17, 2025 — According to WCBD, a tragic incident on the Don Holt Bridge left an 18-wheeler driver dead after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers responded to the eastbound lanes of the bridge around 7:45 a.m. after reports of a fatal crash near the North Rhett Avenue exit. Investigators determined that the truck driver had either stepped off or fallen backward from the step of his truck’s driver-side door before being hit by an oncoming vehicle.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, pending notification from the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
The collision caused significant traffic delays during the morning commute, with vehicles being rerouted at Virginia Avenue while police investigated the scene. All lanes on the Don Holt Bridge have since reopened.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run, and authorities are working to identify the vehicle involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.
