Breaking News: Tragic Head-On Collision in Sampson County Claims Two Lives and Injures Two Others, Including a Child
January 9 , 2025Sampson County, North Carolina — January 7, 2024 — According to WRAL, a devastating head-on collision early Tuesday morning resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and left two others, including a 3-year-old child, hospitalized with serious injuries.
The crash occurred at 7:04 a.m. on N.C. Highway 55 near Oak Grove Church Road. State Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene, where a black 2017 Honda Accord traveling east had crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a white 2013 Kia Sorento heading west.
The impact left both vehicles with catastrophic damage; their front ends were destroyed. Emergency crews worked tirelessly at the scene, removing bodies and treating the injured. The medical examiner arrived around 8:30 a.m. and took away the remains of the two drivers.
Eric Scott Little, 30, of Coats, was driving the Honda Accord and was not wearing a seat belt. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Lauren Brittany Knuckles, 31, of Dudley, who was driving the Kia Sorento and was wearing a seat belt, also succumbed to her injuries before responders could reach her.
A 3-year-old girl in the Kia Sorento, secured in a proper car seat, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to WakeMed via helicopter. The scene saw two helicopters in action, one departing after transporting the child while the other remained on standby.
Additionally, Ashley Morgan Walker, 30, of Coats, a passenger in the Honda Accord who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered severe injuries and was transported to WakeMed for treatment.
This tragic incident underscores the importance of road safety and highlights the far-reaching consequences of such accidents. The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities work to determine what caused the Honda Accord to cross the centerline.
