Breaking News: Teen Killed, Several Injured in Asheboro Crash; Driver Faces Multiple Charges

April 22 , 2025

Asheboro, North Carolina — April 21, 2025 — According to My Fox 8, a tragic chain-reaction crash left a teenager dead and several others injured, according to updated information released by the Asheboro Police Department.

The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Dixie Drive and Dublin Road. Investigators say 43-year-old Suzanne Lewis was traveling along East Dixie Drive when she struck a vehicle stopped at a red light. The impact force pushed that car into another vehicle, which collided with a fourth car.

A teenage passenger seated in the back of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult in the same car sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby trauma center for emergency treatment. Two other occupants from that vehicle, including the driver and the front passenger, were also hospitalized but are expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash also affected those in the third vehicle involved. All three occupants received medical attention for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Fortunately, the driver of the fourth car was not hurt in the incident.

After receiving medical care herself, Lewis was taken into custody and now faces a series of charges connected to the fatal collision. Authorities have confirmed she has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, driving while her license was revoked, operating a vehicle with expired registration, and failure to reduce speed.

Records show that Lewis’s driver’s license was suspended in 2024 and was later suspended indefinitely in 2025. She is held at the Randolph County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.

If convicted of the most serious charge—felony death by motor vehicle—Lewis could face a prison sentence of up to 204 months, which equates to more than 17 years behind bars. The involuntary manslaughter charge alone carries a maximum sentence of nearly five years.

As of now, authorities have not released the identity of the teenager who lost their life in the crash.

The Asheboro Police Department continues investigating the incident and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
