Breaking News: NC Highway Patrol Responds to Multiple Weekend Crashes, Two Fatalities Reported
March 11 , 2025North Carolina — March 10, 2025 — According to WNCT, several serious crashes occurred across North Carolina over the weekend, prompting responses from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Martin, Camden, Pitt, and Jones counties. Two of the collisions resulted in fatalities.
In Martin County, troopers arrived at the scene of a crash on Bear Grass Road on Friday involving a school bus and a car. Investigators determined that the car’s driver, traveling west on Five Cent Road, crossed the centerline and collided with the bus. At the time of the crash, one student was on board. Both the student and the bus driver sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The car driver was charged with driving left of center.
In Pitt County, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred Saturday on U.S. 64 near the Edgecombe County line. Authorities reported that 63-year-old Sammy Parker of Tarboro was traveling east at a high speed when he veered off the road and struck a fallen tree. Parker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries.
A tragic head-on collision in Jones County on Sunday claimed two lives. According to reports, a Honda was traveling in the wrong direction on U.S. 70 when it collided with an eastbound Dodge. Both vehicles caught fire, with the Honda burning completely. The drivers of both cars were pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge driver was identified as 37-year-old Satisha Ward of Kinston, while authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the Honda driver.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate these incidents.
