Breaking News: Man Faces Charges After Fatal Hit-and-Run in High Point Parking Lot
December 14 , 2024High Point, North Carolina — December 13, 2024 — According to My Fox 8, a tragic hit-and-run has left one man dead and another in police custody, according to the High Point Police Department.
The incident occurred around 5:25 a.m. on Friday in the parking lot of a warehouse on the 700 block of Pegg Road. Authorities say 28-year-old Gerard O. Lyons of Greensboro was walking through the lot when he was struck and killed by a box truck.
Investigators determined that the truck’s driver, 27-year-old Andrew D. Rodgers of Greensboro, was operating the vehicle with a frost-covered windshield, which obstructed his view at the time of the crash. After the collision, police allege Rodgers parked the box truck and moved his personal vehicle to another area of the lot before calling 911.
Rodgers was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run and careless and reckless driving. His bond was set at $10,000 secured.
This marks the seventh traffic fatality in High Point this year.
The High Point Police Department emphasized the importance of safety in cold weather conditions, stating that this tragedy is a stark reminder to always clear frost and ice from vehicle windshields before driving.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
