Archdale, North Carolina — January 31, 2024 — According to MyFox8 and the Archdale Police Department, a 24-year-old High Point man has been charged in connection with a deadly head-on collision that claimed the life of a local woman.

Authorities said on December 22, 2024, Davon Hicks was engaged in a speed competition with a 21-year-old Trinity motorcyclist when the crash occurred. Investigators determined that Hicks was driving a Ford Mustang at over 80 miles per hour along North Main Street near Marshall Street while the motorcyclist was traveling at speeds exceeding 75 miles per hour.

According to police, Hicks lost control while attempting to pass other vehicles at high speed, veering into the turning lane before crossing into oncoming traffic. His vehicle then collided head-on with 68-year-old Linda Jean Marrs of High Point, fatally injuring her.

Hicks has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor death by vehicle. He surrendered to authorities on Thursday, January 30, and was issued a $20,000 secured bond.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist was cited for multiple offenses, including speeding, reckless driving, participating in a speed competition, and driving without a valid license.
