Breaking News: Fatal Crash in Aberdeen: One Dead, Two Airlifted After Collision at Highway 15-501 and Pee Dee Road
December 1 , 2024Aberdeen, North Carolina — November 30, 2024 — According to Sandhills Sentinel, a fatal accident claimed one life and left two individuals critically injured on Saturday morning. The collision occurred near the Highway 15-501 intersection and Pee Dee Road, close to Burney Hardware, shortly before 11 a.m.
According to troopers, a commercial flatbed truck traveling toward Aberdeen on 15-501 collided with a Kia SUV. Reports indicate the SUV driver failed to yield at a stop sign, pulling directly into the truck’s path. The collision forced the Kia off the roadway while the truck veered to the left, crashing into a large pine tree. Tragically, the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Kia and a passenger in the truck sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders coordinated with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue to establish a landing zone for two medical helicopters nearby. EMS transported the injured individuals to the landing zone for airlift to a trauma center.
Responding to the scene, in addition to Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the N.C. Highway Patrol.
