Breaking News: Fatal Collision on N.C. 211 After Equipment Trailer Detaches from Truck

April 16 , 2025

Brunswick County, North Carolina — April 15, 2025 — According to WECT News 6, a tragic crash on N.C. Highway 211 claimed the life of a 63-year-old man, following a trailer separation incident involving a commercial vehicle.

The collision occurred near Old Lennon Road when a westbound utility truck, operated by a Lee Electric employee, was hauling a trailer loaded with an excavator. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), the trailer became unhitched from the truck, crossed into the opposite traffic lane, and violently struck an oncoming 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling eastbound.

breaking news

The driver of the Trailblazer, identified as George Maskara Jr., a resident of Bolivia, North Carolina, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the utility vehicle, 20-year-old Cody Frabotta of Wilmington, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Officials have not released further details about what led to the trailer becoming detached, but the investigation remains active.

Emergency responders closed a section of N.C. 211 for several hours while troopers reconstructed the crash and cleared the roadway.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to examine whether mechanical failure, improper hitching, or driver error contributed to the trailer separation. Authorities emphasize the importance of properly securing equipment and regularly inspecting tow connections, especially for vehicles transporting heavy machinery on public roads.
