Breaking News: North Carolina Man Facing Several Charges After Crash, including Felony Death by Vehicle and Felony Hit And Run

Huntersville, North Carolina — July 23, 2024 — According to WCNC Charlotte and the Huntersville Police Department, a 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash Tuesday night involving three cars.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday on Statesville Road near Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

Killed in a Crash

Huntersville police responded to the crash and found a 20-year-old woman dead at the scene and another driver who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The third driver involved in the collision, 31-year-old Michael Benjamin, ran away from the crash scene but was located shortly after by a K-9 Unit.

Benjamin is now facing several charges, including felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, DWI, and resisting, delaying, and obstructing a police officer.

The department’s initial investigation showed that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
