August 15 , 2024

Charlotte, North Carolina — August 14, 2024 — According to WSAZ 3, a Duke Energy employee was electrocuted around 2:35 p.m. on Wandering Creek Drive in northwest Charlotte while servicing a neighborhood.

A statement from Duke Energy said:

“Earlier this afternoon a fatality on Wandering Creek Drive in Charlotte involved one of our line workers. Our hearts go out to our teammate’s family and fellow coworkers. We are currently investigating the incident to learn more and ask for privacy for the family at this time.”

No specific details about the incident were provided, as Duke Energy officials said that the worker’s death was under investigation.

Although Duke Energy had not publicly confirmed the identity of the employee killed, a GoFundMe shared the official fundraiser set up for the employee’s family. Details from the GoFundMe page identified the employee as a lineman, a Marine veteran, and was engaged to be married.

More than $25,000 had been raised through GoFundMe. According to fundraiser organizers, all donations will go to the lineman’s fiancee. The GoFundMe page did initially name the lineman who was killed and his fiancee. We are not including those details due to the family’s request for privacy.
