Breaking News: Airport Employee Fatally Injured in Vehicle Incident at Charlotte Douglas International Airport
January 27 , 2025Charlotte, North Carolina — January 27, 2025 — According to WBTV, a tragic incident occurred at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, when an employee was fatally injured in a vehicle-related accident on the tarmac.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:38 a.m. following reports of an employee being struck by an airline ramp vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived but, unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Airport officials confirmed that the accident involved a single airline ramp vehicle and stated that operations at the airport were not significantly impacted. In an official statement, they expressed their condolences:
“This morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., a single-vehicle accident involving an airline ramp vehicle occurred at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Emergency and medical crews responded promptly. Sadly, the individual involved did not survive. Our deepest condolences go out to the employee’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. The Airport is working closely with airline and first responder partners in the ongoing investigation and is providing support as needed. Airport chaplains are available on-site.”
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), representing the deceased employee, released a separate statement the following day, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the investigation:
“An IAM member lost their life on the job today at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The IAM is coordinating with authorities to conduct a full investigation. The IAM has dispatched a safety committee to assist and will provide support to our affected members. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our deceased member.”
