Unsung Heroes – Nurses
March 16 , 2024Every day we have the privilege of meeting dedicated, hard-working men and women and hearing their stories. It’s inspiring and an honor to represent their rights.
This month, I am launching a new feature that we’re calling the #UnsungHeroes. This is an opportunity for us to recognize and thank the dedicated workers across our state who don’t always get the recognition and appreciation they deserve.
The first group of #UnsungHeroes that I want to recognize are the incredible nurses that serve in our hospitals, emergency rooms, and other facilities across the state. These dedicated nurses work long hours in difficult conditions, providing care for patients in shifts for 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. It’s demanding, difficult physical labor and, unfortunately, it’s often thankless.
My Mom is a nurse, so I have seen the power of a caring, knowledgeable nurse up close. She provided home health care to our small, rural community for many years. We could never make it through the grocery store without everyone stopping to talk to her. “Call Judy” must have been a common phrase in the community as she responded to many emergencies. Calm in the face of turbulence, focused and committed to her patients, she always found a way to help.
Over the years, I had the opportunity to represent many wonderful nurses when they needed someone to care for them. Helping them deal with insurance company stalls and get the treatment they deserve is just one way to honor my Mom.
Life would be miserable without nurses. They are truly #UnsungHeroes, and I am so grateful for their hard work and dedication.
Do you know a nurse? Take a moment to thank them and let them know how much you appreciate them.
